Kenrinie Makutu, a social worker at the rehabilitation centre explains a number of challenges faced by the program.
“The challenges we are facing includes tracing children trafficked into neighbouring countries such as Mozambique and Zambia. We also currently have a lot of children identified in the communities for recovery and rehabilitation but we only have the space to cater to 24 children at a time. We also do not have any facility at the centre to cater to children who might not be willing to go back to school, but are ready to do vocational training.”
The event will be a double-venue event featuring the talents of five comedians from Absolute Comedy (Rebecca McDonald, Trevor Thompson, Nick Carter, Geoff Mackay, and Mo) , the beautiful voices of Musk Ox (Nathaniel Larochette) and Jill Zmud, the talented Sadie Hell at Umi café. At Shanghai restaurant (across the street) there will be a dance showcase put on by the Dyverse break dance crew as well as funky beats spun by Dj Daisy and Dj Chris International going until late.
The event is only $10 tickets and all kicks off at 7pm with all proceeds going directly towards the cause. There will be prizes for the best costumes, so come laugh, listen and dance in centre-town on July 31.
